The Red Arrows will fly over the River Mersey at the same time Cunard’s Three Queens are on the river, according to the company.

Cunard has confirmed the iconic Royal Air Force Acrobatic Team will fly over the ships as part of the celebrations. The planes, famed for their colourful smoke patterns and spectacular mid-air manoeuvres, will fly over Liverpool at 1.50pm on Monday 25 May on their way to an air show in Blackpool.

The fly past will coincide with the Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria meeting on the river, where they will sail towards the city’s famous Three Graces before performing manoeuvres. The event, which is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to the waterfront, is the first time Cunard’s three liners gather on the river at the same time.

The event is part of Cunard’s 175th anniversary celebrations and launches seven weeks of events in the city, named One Magnificent City. Fireworks will take place on Sunday 24 May and Monday 25 May at 10pm to mark the occasion, while a light show named Amazing Graces will be beamed onto the Three Graces each night of the weekend from 10pm.
