Plans for a triple-tower apartment complex in Liverpool’s business district could spark significant growth in the city centre, according to Liverpool BID Company.
The non-profit organisation, which represents more than 1,500 businesses in the area, has welcomed Elliot Group’s proposed £250 million development on Leeds Street.
Liverpool BID chief executive Bill Addy tells Your Move: “We would welcome a sustainable residential development in close proximity to the commercial district and look forward to developments going forward. Clearly there will be a lot of negotiations with the council’s planning department to come, but this could benefit Liverpool by expanding the city centre northwards.
“We hope to see a quality development and the planners will be looking for that as well. Elliot Group is currently developing elsewhere in the city so clearly they have the ability to deliver the scheme.”
The £250 million development would be situated on Leeds Street’s junction with Pall Mall and house 163 three-bedroom apartments, 457 two-bedroom units, 163 one-bedroom flats and 232 studios across its three towers.
Elliot Group envisions the buildings as a gateway to the commercial district, claiming they will help the area fulfil its potential and make a “dramatic statement” to visitors entering the city from the north.
Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group, says: “We wanted to create a statement of confidence for people entering the city. If our proposals are approved then they will go a long way to helping Leeds Street fulfil its potential as a dramatic gateway along the northern edge of the city centre.”
Designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall, the project is said to be the largest single private housing project in Liverpool, with the potential to provide 1,015 new homes.
Elliot Group, which recently revealed plans for a twin-tower complex in Manchester, says regeneration chiefs in Liverpool City Council have already welcomed the proposals.
The developer is aiming to submit a planning application in September so the venture can be considered for formal approval.
