More than four tonnes of unwanted kitchen and household items will be up for grabs at the Free Shop Giveaway Event in Liverpool city centre next week.
Liverpool university students and local residents from various halls of residence and properties donated the items, which will be handed out to members of the public on 26 September.
The event, which is part of the Liverpool Guild of Students’ Leave Liverpool Tidy project, will take place at St Bride’s Church on Percy Street between 11am and 3pm.
All kitchen and household goods will be given away for free, but there will be no delivery service offered, meaning residents will have to make their own collection arrangements.
The event is part of the broader Leave Liverpool Tidy scheme, an initiative funded by the council and the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority and Veolia Community Fund to highlight the importance of recycling and reducing household waste.
Councillor Steve Munby, cabinet member for neighbourhoods, says: “Students make a positive contribution to the city which we value highly. However, in some cases they are not aware about what they should be recycling and waste either goes to landfill or gets left when they leave the city – the work we have done this year means there will be no excuses for not recycling and keeping their neighbourhood tidy.”
