Birkenhead could become ‘Liverpool’s Left Bank’

One of Liverpool’s most sought-after residential spots could soon be over the water according to a local boutique developer.

Goodman Wells is in the process of building over 90 apartments across two sites in Birkenhead’s Hamilton Square and Woodside quarter.

Work is underway at six properties on Hamilton Square, with building at Birchen House set to begin in the first quarter of 2016.

Paul Burgess, Goodman Wells director, whose firm is currently refurbishing the Princes Building on Dale Street, says: “ The square is an absolute gem and potentially one of the most desirable and characterful places to live in the entire city region.

“But it’s not just about architecture and heritage, Hamilton Square and the waterfront are five minutes from Liverpool City Centre and command views over one of the world’s great waterfronts.

Paul adds, “Ultimately this part of Birkenhead can become Liverpool’s Left Bank.”

Phil Davies, leader of Wirral council, who is currently holding a consultation process aimed at boosting the appeal of the square to potential investors and residents, says: “Investors look at Wirral through a new lens.”

“Birkenhead’s historic waterfront with its view of Liverpool across the Mersey, Hamilton Square and Woodside’s grand architecture, and a range of development sites across the borough with easy access to the motorway, rail links and a skilled workforce mean Wirral is one of the UK’s fastest developing economic opportunities.”
