More than 2,000 runners descended on Wirral over the weekend to take part in a trio of races – the Wirral 10K, Wirral Half Marathon and Whistle Stop Tour of Wirral.
Organised by Hoylake-based BTR, the events saw participants race across the peninsula’s parks, beach and coastline.
Dejene Gezimu from the Liverpool Harriers AC returned the fastest time in the 10k, finishing in 31:09 to claim first place in the race for the second year in a row.
Kirsty Longley from Liverpool Pembroke Sefton Harriers was the fastest female in the same event, setting a new record for the women’s course with her time of 35:32.
Meanwhile, Dermot Bryers from Victoria Park Harriers & Tower Hamlets was the first male home in the half marathon after completing the route in 1:15:08, while the first female was Karen Stopforth in 1:31:05.
Mark Dunham from Southport Waterloo AC won the Whistle Stop Tour of Wirral for the second consecutive year and also set a new male record of 2:27:39.
The Whistle Stop female winner was Carmel Triggs with a combined time of 3:03:53. Carmel also set a new women’s event record by 25 minutes and 59 seconds.

We’re extremely lucky to have such stunning scenery on our doorstep, and Wirral provides the perfect setting for a diverse range of terrains to really challenge our runners.

Congratulations to each and every runner who took part this weekend, as well as the spectators and volunteers who all play a vital role with their support.”
