3G pitches and new pavilions lined-up for South Liverpool playing fields

Planned improvements to two of South Liverpool’s most well known and busiest playing fields are recommended for approval next week.

Under the proposals, Jericho Lane Playing Fields in Aigburth and the Simpson Grounds Playing Fields in Woolton will both get three artificial 3G pitches and new changing room facilities.

Proposals at Jericho Lane include the creation of a pavilion with individual and team changing rooms alongside a club room, coaching room, gym and workout studio in the south of the site.

Floodlights and new “perimeter ball-stop fencing’ are also planned for both sites.

The quality of the remaining grass playing pitches at both sites will be improved at a later date, as part of the FA Pitch Improvement Programme.

The improvements are the first stage of a £17 million project to create four ‘football hubs’ across Liverpool, aiming to help secure the long term future of the game in the city.

The two other sites chosen to be part of the scheme announced earlier this year are Heron Eccles Playing Field in Allerton and the Jeffrey Humble Playing Field in Fazakerley.
