More than 600 apartments will be created in three new blocks at Bevington Bush under plans approved by Liverpool City Council.

The scheme near Scotland Road comprises of a mix of studio, one and two-bedroom flats across the buildings which measure between nine and 17 storeys.

The project, which has been designed by architects Falconer Chester Hall (FCH) for Bevington Developments, will also contain a gym for residents’ use and replaces an earlier consented scheme for more than 1,000 units of student accommodation.

Historically, this site was partially occupied by the St Martin’s Market and nanaging director of Bevington Developments, Greg Malouf, describes the recently approved residential build as an “opportunity to re-create a vibrant community in a now under-utilised, derelict site”.

Greg says: “Our vision for this apartment complex gives nod to the property’s heritage tied to the St. Martin’s Market with the tallest building acting as a beacon, providing a strong identity for the development, facing north on Scotland Road towards the city centre and the grouping of residences are unified with an enclosed multi-functional courtyard and gardens.”

The development will also feature a secure car and cycle parking, as well as commercial units on the lower level.

Robert Brym, senior architect at FCH, adds: “This development will make a strong visual statement close to a busy route into the city centre, removing the considerable blight which currently exists.

“It will also demonstrate the confidence of further new investment into the city and help reinforce the appeal of the commercial district by providing quality accommodation close to this important employment area.”

Plans to build up to 110 new homes on land next to North Liverpool’s Tobacco Wharf (pictured above) were also given planning consent at the meeting of the council’s planning committee yesterday (24 October).

Two separate buildings will be built on a site between Tobacco Wharf and 43 Commercial Road; one of which will be next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, with the other adjacent to Commercial Road.
