The Liverpool songwriting pair behind a popular music podcast are set to give the inside story on how some of the world’s most popular songs were written in a new BBC radio documentary.

Sodajerker, aka Simon Barber and Brian O’Connor, will present their one-hour ‘The Secrets of Songwriting’ programme this weekend on the BBC World Service.

The idea for the show came from the duo’s ‘Sodajerker On Songwriting’ podcast, which was this year named in the ‘13 Podcasts You Need To Listen To Right Now’ complied by NME Magazine.

Alongside the podcast, which has featured interviews with the likes of Jimmy Webb, Kevin Bacon and Suzanne Vega, Sodajerker are also accomplished songwriters in their own right, creating music for various bands, solo artists and film soundtracks.

The programme, which will be broadcast tomorrow (7 May), just after 2pm, will include contributions from a number of podcast guests including celebrated Motown writer Lamont Dozier, Andy Partridge of XTC and singer-songwriter Joan Armatrading.

Simon Barber says: “It’s been a fascinating journey so far finding out how some of the biggest songs from some of the world’s biggest stars came to be and we’ve had some fantastic feedback from people all over the globe.

“We’re delighted to be able to share what we’ve learned from these amazingly creative people with the BBC World Service listeners.”
