Liverpool ONE piano festival seeks artists

The organisers behind the Tickle the Ivories Piano Festival are seeking local designers and artists to take part in this year’s event.

Liverpool ONE has teamed up with Open Culture to give the city’s digital artists and graphic designers the opportunity to have their work featured in the 2016 edition of the music initiative, which offers pianists of all abilities the chance to showcase their skills in public.

Six winning designs will be chosen to adorn the pianos situated across retail and leisure destinations in the city centre during Tickle the Ivories, along with the artist’s name.

Artists who wish to submit designs for consideration have been instructed to produce works inspired by the past or present of the areas where the pianos will be placed, or people from the past or present of Liverpool and how they influenced the region.

The pianos will be located in Paradise Street, The Galleria, South John Street, College Lane, Keys Court and Sugar House Steps.

Donna Howitt, marketing director at Liverpool ONE, says: “Tickle the Ivories is a favourite of the summer calendar and this year we are delighted to invite artists from across the region to collaborate with us and showcase their designs and talents on the pianos.

“We are looking for designs that merge the old and the new features of our beautiful city and bring out its amazing history. Music is a huge part of Liverpool’s legacy and we want people to express their creativity with their designs.”

The contest will be judged by representatives from Liverpool ONE, Open Culture, The Bluecoat and Liverpool Biennial, with the chosen entries appearing on the Tickle the Ivories pianos for the duration of the two-month event.

The deadline for entries is 6 June at 10am. For more information visit www.liverpool-one.com/tickle.
