A prominent Liverpool property developer has helped to fund therapeutic horse riding opportunities for disabled people through a £10,000 donation.

Elliot Lawless, director of Elliot Group which is currently developing Wolstenholme Square and sites in the Baltic Triangle, responded to a plea for funds by the city’s Beechley Stables in Allerton.

The cash will enable the Harthill Road centre to purchase a new horse following the recent retirement of two of its much-loved equine residents.

With the donation also set to cover the upkeep of the horse, Elliot says: “I grew up in the area and my dad used to take me to see the horses as a kid. I knew it was a special place even then and as soon as I heard they needed a bit of assistance I was happy to help.”

The developer put forward the funding after hearing about Beechley Stables’ plea for help through a chance meeting will Liverpool’s Deputy Mayor, Councillor Ann O’Byrne.

She adds: “I love to sing the praises of the Beechley team who work so hard to provide this invaluable service, and I’m delighted that Elliot felt such a connection with the stables which resulted in this incredible donation.

“The new horse will be a welcome addition and will ensure the continued quality and quantity of service for disabled youngsters across the city.”

Beechley Stables is now searching for a horse to purchase with Elliot Group’s donation.

Centre manager Vicky Evans says: “It takes a very special type of horse to work at Beechley.  They need to be patient and tolerant, which goes against their instinct, so finding them is not easy and they are not cheap to purchase or look after.

“Without generous donations like this we simply couldn’t deliver our vital services to Liverpool and I’m very grateful for Elliot Group’s help.”
