A celebrity chef and a North West entrepreneur will open their first Liverpool restaurant in the Old Blind School on the corner of Hope Street and Hardman Street.

David Mooney, who has made over 200 appearance on Granada Tonight among other television work, and business partner Paul Newman, have signed up to take space for a new restaurant named The Old Blind School.

The business partners, who own Chester company New Moon Co, say the new pub will open in May across two floors of the building. The new venue will also include ales, wines and a cocktail menu and will create up to 40 new jobs.

Commenting on the firm’s seventh venue, Paul Newman says: “We have been looking for the right site in Liverpool now for a while and it has always been our intention to be in this fabulous city. We are delighted to have found the perfect site to showcase our thing in Liverpool.”

The new restaurant will be based on the upmarket Old Sessions House (pictured) restaurant in Knutsford. Work is underway to convert part of the Grade II-listed Old Blind School to house the restaurant. It will join new coffee shop and roastery 92 Degrees Coffee to take space in the building, which is owned by the company behind the successful Hope Street Hotel.
