More details have been revealed about new plans to reopen the original Flying Picket music venue.

An application has been submitted for a ‘high quality bar, restaurant and music venue’ at the Hardman Street site. The company behind the proposal, Buyers Club Ltd, lists Bold Street Coffee founder Sam Tawil and Miles Falkingham, the architect behind Camp & Furnace in the Baltic Triangle, as directors.

The proposals include a new outdoor garden area, a downstairs bar and separate restaurant section and a first floor music venue with its own bar and temporary stage.

The new venue is located to the rear of the former Blind School, Trade Union & Unemployment Resource Centre and Flying Picket Bar complex on the corner of Hardman Street and Hope Street, at the site of the iconic former Flying Picket club.

The new venue will be the third new venture to open at the site, with 92 Degrees Coffee and The Old Blind School already open. The entrance to the new venue will be through two courtyards behind The Old Blind School and will not be visible from the street.

The original Flying Picket closed in 2004 because of debts but reopened as the Picket in the Baltic Triangle, where it held music, art and culture events.
