Liverpool homeowners can designate the air above their homes as a no fly zone to prevent drones passing over them.

A new website will allow the public to request a no fly zone over their house for free, which will mean drone operators will have to seek a permit to encroach on the space.

John Tansley, managing director NoFlyZone.org, says: “(it) is the first site in the UK to introduce the vast benefits which the drone industry will inevitably bring.

“In fact the service is intended to benefit the public, the drone industry and the UK Government. Our hope is that in allowing the public to request that their property become a no fly zone, then this will address the privacy concerns which have been mooted by the relevant authorities.”

John, who has previously worked at a Top Secret position in HM Forces, believes the service will help delivery services such as Amazon’s Prime Air, Google’s Project Wing and DHL’s drone delivery service navigate residential areas.

However, the company says people can request drone deliveries to their airspace and specify a safe way in which they want packages delivered if such a service is ever launched in the UK.

Drone operators are required to ask the owner’s permission if they wish to fly over a private residence. The new company wants to create a central database of homeowners and operators as the industry grows in future.
