Apartment plan for Wolstenholme Square as Kazimier announces closure

Iconic Liverpool club, Kazimier, will close its doors in 2016 as a developer plans to rebuild Wolstenholme Square in a £40m regeneration plan.

Elliot Lawless, who is behind the scheme to redevelop Heaps Rice Mill into apartments, says  buildings up to ten storeys high will house 377 apartments in the square, with cafes and shops on the ground floor and office space also included. The square was previously the subject of a planning application in November 2014, but this will be a different scheme.

However, the plans would mean relocating Nation, home of Cream, and Kazimier, which has separately announced it will close its doors in 2016.

A statement from the developer says: “The plans would see the creation of more than 370 apartments provided in a number of size formats ranging from studios to two-bed and could create hundreds of jobs in the construction phase and in the shops, restaurants and cafes created in the scheme.”

The plans, which include developments on three sides of the square, will be on show at Nation on Tuesday 28 April as part of a public consultation before the plans are submitted to the planning committee.
