The iconic Flying Picket club could be relaunched as a music venue, bar and restaurant under new plans.

Bold Street Coffee founder Sam Tawil and Miles Falkingham, the architect behind Camp & Furnace in the Baltic Triangle, have teamed up to launch a new venue at 24 Hardman Street.

The new venue is located in the rear portion of the Grade II-listed former Old Blind School, the front of which is being converted into the Old Blind School restaurant and also houses 92 Degrees Coffee, the city’s first micro roastery and coffee shop.

The new venue will be constructed in the building that formerly housed the Flying Picket Bar, according to an application to Liverpool City Council. The team have also applied for an entertainment and alcohol license for the scheme.

Listed as a restaurant, bar and music venue, the new venture includes minor modifications to the existing building, which is opposite Liverpool Philharmonic and accessed through a courtyard.

The original Flying Picket closed in 2004 because of debts but reopened as the Picket in the Baltic Triangle area of Liverpool. It became a cult venue because of its music gigs and community events, as well as being a host for arts festivals in the city.

Directors of the company behind the new venture Sam Tawil and Miles Falkingham, have been involved in some of Liverpool’s best-loved venues in recent years. Sam Tawil launched Bold Street Coffee and was behind Duke Street Espresso, which is now the Filter and Fox café under new owners. Meanwhile, Miles Falkingham was involved as part of a collective in the launch of Camp and Furnace, one of the city’s most popular events venues.
