More than a quarter of a million people are thought to have turned out at Liverpool’s waterfront over the weekend as a world record catwalk attempt, live music, and a classic car cavalcade drew Cunard’s 175 celebrations to a close.
Held from Friday to Sunday, the end of the One Magnificent City celebrations in Liverpool were marked by a number of events including a Red Arrows flypast, a vintage festival at the Albert Dock and a transatlantic food festival in Mann Island featuring a huge cake with both the Liverpool and New York skyline on it.
The Cunard flagship Queen Mary II made a welcome returned to the city’s shores to mark the 175th year anniversary of the departure of Britannia, the first ship which left Liverpool on July 4th 1840 for Cunard’s revolutionary Atlantic service. She left on Saturday evening following a stunning firework display, just weeks after the unforgettable Three Queens event which is thought to have been worth £33 million to the Merseyside economy.
