Packed programme of Chinese New Year celebrations
Liverpool will mark the Year of the Pig and 20 years of the city’s twinning with Shanghai this weekend by staging live performances, traditional entertainment and a special lumiere event.
Pyrotechnic and projection show ‘The Quest for the Arch’ will lead a line-up of festivities tonight (8 February) and tomorrow evening (9 February) in Chinatown, followed by a full day of parades, theatre, dance and music on Sunday (10 February).

Get creative at Bluecoat’s mini art school
Bluecoat is setting up a mini art school for all the family, with a free drop-in event taking place from 1-4pm throughout the weekend.
On Saturday (9 February) and Sunday (10 February), activities will include dance and movement, ceramics, learning about graphic design and art history, and trying drawing and printmaking.
City landmark transforms into Wonderland
The Alice Experience begins its two-week run at the Grade I-listed St George’s Hall on Saturday (9 February).
The ticketed attraction for anyone aged three and above invites visitors to join Alice on an adventure, meeting well-known characters including the Mad Hatter, the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat.
