Award-winning actress Greta Scacchi will lead the cast in the Liverpool Playhouse’s forthcoming production of Tennessee Williams’ ‘The Glass Menagerie’.
The well-known stage and screen star, who has won an Emmy and an AFI award and has also been nominated for a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, will take on the role of Amanda when the play heads to the city from 7-31 October.
A co-production between Headlong, Liverpool Everyman & Playhouse and West Yorkshire Playhouse, the play will tell the story of a frustrated mother, a daughter lost in her imagination and a son intent on rebellion.
Greta, whose many film roles include ‘Brideshead Revisited’, ‘The Falling’ and ‘White Mischief’, will be joined on stage by Tom Mothersdale, Erin Doherty and Eric Kofi Abrefa.
Directed by Ellen McDougall, whose previous work includes a critically acclaimed production of Anna Karenina at the Royal Exchange, ‘The Glass Menagerie’ will open in Leeds as well as Liverpool before touring the UK.
It marks the first co-production between the theatres and Headlong since Pete Postlethwaite’s King Lear in 2008.
