Professor Green to announce winners of Liverpool writing competition

Rapper Professor Green will make an exclusive appearance at Liverpool’s Central Library next month to announce the winners of Writing On the Wall’s ‘Mental Health and Me’ competition.

The successful artist, whose real name is Stephen Manderson,  is a patron of male suicide prevention charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and has also spoken about his own demons and his father’s suicide in his lyrics to hits including ‘Lullaby’, ‘Goodnight’ and ‘Read All About It’.

Writing On the Wall is running the competition for a second year, inviting writers of all age groups across Merseyside to submit original responses to the expression ‘Mental Health & Me’ across categories including poetry, short stories, diary or blog posts, letters, journalism, and tweets. An additional spoken word category has also been added for 2015, offering the winner the chance to perform their piece in front of Professor Green.

Entries to the competition, which aims to challenge the stigma around mental distress and promote social inclusion, must be submitted by 5pm on 14 September. The winners will then be announced during a celebratory event attended by the chart-topping star in the library’s Discovery Room on 8 October.
