Allerton Priory homes look set for refusal

Plans to build 160 homes on green space formerly part of the Allerton Priory estate look set to be rejected.

The Redrow proposals, which attracted over 3,000 comments of opposition, have been recommended for refusal at a Liverpool City Council planning committee meeting scheduled for next week.

Resident groups including the Allerton Priory Residents Association and Save Allerton Priory have raised fears over the potential loss of green space and the impact the development could have on local wildlife.

The committee is set to rule on the housebuilder’s plans for the 33-acre site at the 20 December meeting, with a visit to the South Liverpool location planned for the morning of the debate.

The land, which is bordered by Allerton Road and Woolton Road, is allocated green space and formerly formed part of the Grade II*-listed Allerton Priory estate designed by Alfred Waterhouse.

Redrow’s plans include an area of public open space towards the centre of the site which aims to create a buffer between Allerton Priory and the housing, which is envisaged as a mix of three to five-bedroom homes.

A spokesperson for Redrow Homes (NW) says: “We understand that the application may be presented to the planning committee on 20 December, and await the council’s formal decision.”
