An ambitious plan to transform the historic Everton Water Tower into a single home which would be let out for short stays and events has been revealed.

Grey Goose Limited is behind the proposal which would see the Grade II-listed structure on Margaret Street returned to its former glory and a striking roof extension added.

The well-known landmark, which stands over 30m tall and was designed by water engineer Thomas Duncan, can be seen for miles around.

A document included with the planning application says: “The proposal looks to create an interesting and exciting habitable C3 use building from this disused and vacant iconic water tower.

“The existing building is substantial and in good condition, however its proposed use is redundant and will inevitably lead to its detriment long-term.

“The proposal looks to achieve a sympathetic change of use, which as a principle is to retain, reinstate and refurbish the existing building. The only notable alteration being that of the subtle and attractive recessed roof structure and amenity space design.

“The proposed will have no adverse impact on its surroundings and looks to only utilise this magnificent structure. The proposal will create a habitable bespoke building that will ensure it is suitably maintained for many years to come.”

Everton Water Tower, which sits at the top of Everton Brow, was sold at a Manchester auction in February 2019 for £71,000.
