Luxury apartments planned for former Gateacre nursing home

A Grade II-listed former nursing home in Gateacre could be converted into 10 luxury apartments under new plans.

The application, submitted to Liverpool City Council by Alexander Ware Developments, also includes a three-bedroom coach house.

According to a document included in the planning application, the scheme “aims to expand the housing options available in the area so people can have a greater choice of where they live”.

The plans include a mix of studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, with a three-bedroom house at the rear of the site.

The document adds that the “conversion aims to protect the character [of the building] and ensure views and amenity levels are preserved”.

Alexander Ware Developments has been involved with the conversion and restoration of several listed buildings across the North West including in Liverpool, Wirral and in Chester.

The Grange Lane site was formerly used as a nursing home by the Abbeyfield Society, which has since relocated leaving the building vacant and in a poor condition.
