Weekend of summer events in Liverpool

The seaside is heading to Calderstones Park once again tomorrow (23 July) with the return of its urban beach.

The free attraction gets underway during the same weekend which will see the LIMF Summer Jam take place in Sefton Park and the opening of a special roller disco at Albert Dock.

Set to be opened by Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Councillor Roz Gladden, the beach promises to be better than last year with buckets and spades, paid-for children’s rides, a bouncy castle, slides and refreshments all available.

Cllr Peter Mitchell, mayoral lead for parks and open spaces, says: “The urban beach was a huge hit last year and I’m delighted to see it return bigger and better than before.

“It is a great attraction for all ages to come along and enjoy the park and keep the children entertained over the summer holiday.

“Working with our local partners, residents and councillors, it is part of our ongoing commitment to animate our parks across the city for everyone to enjoy.”

The beach will be open each day from 10.30am to 6pm until 4 September.

This weekend will also see Europe’s biggest summer musical festival take place in Sefton Park. LIMF Summer Jam kicks off tonight (22 July) with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra headlining on The Central Stage.

The event, part of the Liverpool International Music Festival, will see more than 120 bands and artists including Sigma and The Wombats, perform in the South Liverpool park.

Summer on the Dock, a programme of events throughout the summer at Albert Dock, also starts tonight with a roller disco in Mermaid Courtyard.

Open everyday from 22 – 31 July between 10am – 6pm, the roller-skating rink will also host a special late-night opening on 29 July.
