New homes for Liverpool given the go-ahead

New homes and a major supermarket development have been given the green light at Liverpool City Council’s latest planning committee meeting.

Proposals to convert vacant city centre office building Crown House into 23 studio apartments were approved along with a number of other residential schemes.

The plans, drawn up by Craig Foster Architects, will see three further floors added to the James Street building as well as on-site cycle parking spaces.

The council also rubber stamped plans to convert Grange Hollies nursing home in Woolton into a development comprising nine self-contained apartments with associated landscaping and parking space.

Meanwhile, a new flagship Home Bargains store in Speke was the only non-residential scheme on the meeting agenda and the local authority gave its backing to the project.

The discount retailer has been given the go-ahead to set up an outlet with its own garden centre and cafe/restaurant at the former Rayware site, which lies opposite Dobbies on Speke Boulevard.

The upcoming store faces competition from the New Mersey Retail Park which is undergoing major refurbishments, with work underway on a new Cineworld cinema at the site of the former Currys.
