Plans for a ‘flagship’ Home Bargains store in Speke have been revealed.
Located opposite Dobbies on Speke Boulevard, the new development could include its own outdoor garden centre and café or restaurant.
The proposed store is part of a “retail-led regeneration” of the former Rayware Site which is currently being used as a temporary airport car park.
Outline planning also includes provisions for car parking, landscaping, associated highway works and up to 9,000 sq m of “employment uses”.
The area’s retail and food offering has been boosted over the past few years with a drive-through Starbucks, Toby Carvery and new Taskers DIY store opening nearby.
If approved, the new Home Bargains would be in competition with the New Mersey Retail Park which is currently undertaking a significant programme of refurbishments with work underway on a new Cineworld cinema at the site of the former Currys store.
Home Bargains declined to comment on the plans when approached.
