Liverpool City Council is in talks with potential investors about the use of vacant space in the Cunard Building, amid rumours that a restaurant operator could be heading to the site.

Speculation that restaurant group Living Ventures is interested in the iconic building for a venue similar to Manchester’s Australasia have not been confirmed, however the council says it is considering operators for the ground floor.

A spokesman for Liverpool City Council says: “It was indicated that when Liverpool City Council took possession of Cunard that we would be looking at all options for commercial use of vacant space in the building.

“While nothing has been determined yet we are talking to a range of potential investors and are confident that we will attract new business and tenants to Cunard.”

The building, one of the city’s waterfront ‘Three Graces’, was originally considered for a cruise liner terminal by Mayor Joe Anderson after the council acquired the building last year. However, cost and infrastructure issues meant the scheme was rejected, leaving the space vacant.

Living Ventures declined to comment on the prospect of it taking space at the Cunard Building.
