A new competitive socialising venue is set to open in the Baltic Triangle this autumn.
Superlekka will feature a series of interactive games and challenges within a retro sports stadium-inspired setting, with the concept described by its creators as a cross between competitive socialising and a television game show.
The venue is the latest project from Kip Piper, former creative director and co-founder of Golf Fang, and is being launched with a £2 million investment alongside Daniel Gillbanks and David Scowcroft, founders of PINS Social Club.
Around 30 jobs are expected to be created as part of the opening.
Games will cover a range of different activities, including giant beer pong, quiz-show-style challenges and an event inspired by Supermarket Sweep, with players tested on skills ranging from hand-eye coordination to general knowledge.
Kip says: “The events are designed to bring people together, creating a fun competition where every player has a genuine chance to be crowned the ‘Champ’.
“I wanted to create a place to enjoy the energy that comes from playing games and I really can’t wait to get people through the doors to experience that.”
Players will be given RFID wristbands which can be tapped at each game to register their scores, with results added automatically to live leaderboards around the venue. The technology has been developed following around 12 months of research, development and testing, with Superlekka creating its own system to connect the individual games and scoring.
PINS co-founder Daniel Gillbanks said the technology and stadium-style environment had been central to the concept.
He adds: “The dedication to detail in creating a fully immersive stadium environment is what truly sets it apart. By creating such a unique space with live digital technology, Superlekka won’t just elevate competitive socialising, it’s defining the entirely new category of sportstainment.”
Alongside the games, the venue will include a large central bar serving cocktails, beer and non-alcoholic drinks, while West Coast Coffee will also have a presence.
Superlekka will initially operate as an over-18s venue before expanding its offer later in the year.
From Christmas, dedicated ‘Superlekka Juniors’ sessions are planned for players aged 13 and above, with family tickets available during selected daytime periods. The venue will then return to an adults-only format in the evenings.
