Beyond the Interior

An insight into how Helen Kaufman of HK Interiors got started in the interior design industry and what you can expect to find inside her Aigburth studio

WITH NO SET CAREER
INTENTIONS while I was studying, I
always knew I would have some sort of
role within the creative world! Although
I despised exams, I gained GCSEs and A
Levels which led me to complete a Fine Art
degree at Liverpool John Moores University.

Then, refining my interests, I completed a second degree in Visual Merchandising and
Promotional Design.

Whilst studying, I was selected for work
experience with an interior design company based in Liverpool, eventually taking the role as head designer. Fast forward 15 years, and I am well into my first year of HK Interiors and I have never looked back!

DESIGN STUDIO

The design studio offers a wide range of products and services. We have a library of wallpaper and fabric books, a selection of home products including sofas, side tables, lamps, soft furnishings and home accessories.

Our social media is also updated daily with new products, trends and ongoing client projects. Working hours can vary. In addition to running the shop, managing social media, any ongoing work will be taken home or I’ll go in to work on a Sunday.

A typical day

• Start with general housekeeping and display of the showroom ready for unexpected clients and visitors
• Advising customers with one off purchases or booking them in for consultations
• Design work for ongoing projects which can be done from my work station in the studio
• Going out to consultations with clients to view spaces, discuss ideas and requirements
• General administration

HOME CONSULTATIONS

Does your home need a refresh or an update but don’t know where to start? Do you feel like you need a fresh perspective or an expert opinion? Have a whole house to do? Or just one room? Large open plan living spaces can sometimes be overwhelming, but we can help with zoning these areas too. We also offer a curtain measure and design service.

Process

• A suitable time and date is booked in for us to visit the room/home
• Depending on the scale of the project it normally takes no more than an hour
• We will find out as much information as possible. Are there any existing items to stay or you want to keep? Establish what is needed for you, discuss colours, lighting, layout, furniture, wallpaper, curtain designs (Not all of the above will be relatable to each project or room, this is just outlining the basics)
• Ideas will then be presented in store

If you want to start re-designing your interior, why don’t you visit our design studio for more inspiration?
