New Year, New Look (has grey had its day?)
YM Liverpool’s new resident interior design expert, Helen Kaufman, owner of Aigburth’s HK Interiors, on the colour trends to watch out for in 2020.
LOVE IT OR HATE IT, grey features in many homes throughout the UK, and especially here in Liverpool.
It has been one of the most popular interior colours throughout 2019, however it’s slowly being replaced with warmer tones of taupe and (dare I say it) beige!
Looking forward into 2020, mint and sage are definitely set to be the star tones of interior colour trends.
That being said, grey is never going to go away and that’s because the grey ‘trend’ is not actually a trend at all, but rather a beautiful palette of neutral tones – especially when used in the right way.
There are more than 50 shades of grey(!) and each shade has a use within the home. Grey is almost a colourless colour.
Technically, it’s the halfway point between white and black, which means it pairs perfectly with almost every other colour. So no need to worry, you don’t need to redecorate just yet as grey will allow you to incorporate 2020 colour trends into your home.
However, if you want to refresh your property for the New Year and be savvy with your spending whilst you’re at it, here’s what you can do…
- Add a colour pop such as navy. Navy is a classic, timeless colour that can be used in cushions, faux fur throws or occasional furniture. Blue seems to be becoming more popular and will be making a strong appearance throughout 2020. So be the trendsetter and get some blue in before others do!
- You can also add a contrasting item within your scheme. A shaggy rug, abstract artwork or something a bit more quirky such as a patterned foot stool or colourful storage trunks.
- Don’t forget you can make a huge difference to a room just by adding some candles, whether that be in the form of mini tea light holders or large chunky lanterns. These are perfect for creating that cozy warm feeling on those cold winter nights and injecting some excitement and ambience into your home.
