Plans to build 96-bedroom hotel at a shopping centre in Southport are expected to be given the green light by Sefton Council next week.

The development at Marble Place Shopping Centre has been recommended for approval at the local authority’s first planning committee meeting of March.

The hotel would include a replacement retail unit on the ground floor following the partial demolition of the shopping centre as well as an on-site restaurant.

Issues including the loss of retail units and the impact on the streetscene and nearby Lord Street Conservation Area will be discussed at the meeting on 8 March.

Sefton Council will also assess plans to build eight houses on green belt land located off Holgate in Thornton, a scheme which is recommended for approval under “very special circumstances”.

Proposals to construct 57 houses on land within the Parkhaven Trust estate in Maghull are also recommended for approval, with issues including the development’s design and and impact on heritage assets set to be debated at the meeting.

Also in Maghull, outline planning permission is recommended for a 45-bedroom nursing home on Liverpool Road South following the demolition of an existing building.

The local authority has also earmarked a scheme comprising 12 flats on Liverpool Road in Lydiate for outline approval with conditions, along with the demolition of a bungalow at the site to pave the way for the development.
