A mystery television show has begun shooting at The Bridewell in Liverpool city centre.

Site owner Caro Developments, which transformed the former Victorian prison into student halls and short-stay apartments in 2015, says the project is a “new science series” for an ultra-high definition channel.

The Bridewell, which sat derelict for 16 years before Caro acquired the site, is said to be a popular filming location due to its retained period features including the untouched façade and solid oak doors.

Lee Darwen, director of operations at Caro Developments, says: “The Bridewell truly is a unique building that contains so much history and character. For this reason, when we redeveloped the site it was extremely important for us to not lose the essence of the building’s rich history.

“I am thrilled that producers and film makers from across the country are showing so much interest in using The Bridewell as a filming location. It marks a celebration of Liverpool’s architectural history and strengthens the city’s status as a major player in the global film industry.”

According to Caro, the TV project which is filming at the site is due to be broadcast internationally.
