Jamie Carragher praises LFC star Szoboszlai as pair team up to fight child poverty

Jamie Carragher and Liverpool FC star Dominik Szoboszlai have joined forces to raise thousands of pounds to support young people living in poverty.

The pair united at the Football For Change fundraising lunch last week, which brought together figures from the worlds of football, business and entertainment to raise money to provide life-changing opportunities for disadvantaged young people by funding programmes in education, training and sport.

The fundraising initiative was launched in 2021 by Jamie alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold and Conor Coady. It aims to help young people from poorer backgrounds build brighter futures and has already supported hundreds of grassroots organisations through vital funding.

Dominik’s involvement comes during what has been a standout season for the Liverpool midfielder, who continues to impress both on and off the pitch.

Jamie was full of praise for the Hungarian international, highlighting not just his performances but his willingness to give back.

“Dominik has had a fantastic season and you can already see what a leader he is on the pitch,” he said. “But what’s just as important is what he’s doing off it.

“For him to come here, get involved and support young people having tough starts in life is incredible. That’s leadership – on and off the field.

“He’s got a massive future at Liverpool Football Club and this shows exactly the kind of person he is.”

The former Liverpool defender and Sky Sports pundit also hinted that the midfielder could be a future Liverpool captain, saying he “has what it takes”.

Dominik said supporting the cause was an easy decision, given the impact Football For Change is making in communities.

“It’s great to be part of something that is helping young people who need it most,” he said. “I love Liverpool and my life here, so providing support like this – supporting young people who need assistance – is important.”

Funds raised from the event will go directly towards projects that provide life-changing opportunities for young people, continuing Football For Change’s mission to use the power of football to drive social change.
