Knowsley landmarks turn blue for M.E. Awareness Week

Two Knowsley landmarks are lighting up in blue as the borough shows its support for M.E. Awareness Week.

The Greystone Footbridge and Knowsley Leisure & Culture Park will be illuminated until 14 May as part of the M.E. Association’s ‘Go BLUE for M.E.’ campaign.

The charity’s campaign aims to bring visibility to a typically invisible illness and raise awareness about the condition.

Those who wish to take part in ‘Go BLUE for M.E.’ are encouraged to sport an article of clothing or accessory in the shade, or introduce it into their home or workplace in a creative way.

Recommendations on the group’s website include blue balloons tied to garden gates, facepainting and novelty wigs, as well as blue-themed charity bake sales, plant sales and tea parties to raise money for M.E. research.

A spokesperson for Knowsley Council, which is backing the campaign, says: “The M.E. Association is encouraging everybody to get involved and go ‘BLUE for M.E.’ during the awareness week.

“You can be as creative as you like such as decorating your entire home blue or you can do something as simple as organising a blue day in work or school – it all helps to raise awareness.”
