A local business owner has hailed the community spirit in Bebington in the aftermath of last month’s explosion.

Kay Finlay, managing director of Bebington Glazing, praised the residents of the Wirral town and local businesses for joining forces and supporting one another in the wake of the blast.

New Ferry’s high street was severely damaged in the explosion – the cause of which is still being investigated – and a number of businesses are yet to reopen while some residents have been unable to return to their homes.

Bebington Glazing is working with other local organisations, including Baxter’s Meats, Patton’s Jewellers and The Flower Girl to repair and restore shop fronts and other affected properties.

Kay (pictured with Sue Evans of Baxter’s) says: “Despite what’s happened, it’s been wonderful to see so many locals join forces to help and to support one another. As part of a long list of inspiring efforts from within the community, initiatives such as fundraising group have been put in to place and those in need have already welcomed many donations.

“Although we’re still trying to process what’s happened, we hope that moving forward, New Ferry comes back stronger than ever and begins to move towards its regeneration as we rebuild our community.”

Rebuilding work began in the town centre earlier this month, five weeks on from the explosion.

Meanwhile, the New Ferry Town Team has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for future regeneration projects to boost the town’s recovery.
