Lidl announces plans for new store in Garston

Lidl has announced plans to deliver a new store in Garston, and will be holding a public consultation online for the local community to participate in.

The multi-million pound investment would replace the former Co-Op store on St. Mary’s Road, as well as the empty unit next door. The Card Factory shop is unaffected by the plans.

Lidl’s proposals for a “modern, spacious supermarket” would create up to 40 new full and part-time jobs for the local community, and is the second new store for South Liverpool, after the opening of Lidl Park Road in October.

The new Lidl store would have a 1,256 sqm sales area, and include an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 87 car parking spaces including disabled, parent & child spaces and two rapid electric vehicle charging points.

The public are invited to comment on the proposals via a dedicated website and through a postcard being delivered to properties in the area. Residents with questions about the proposals can also call Lidl’s consultation team directly on 0800 089 0361.

Stuart Jardine, Lidl’s regional head of property, says: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of further progressing our ambitious investment programme for Liverpool and are delighted to be announcing our plans for a new store in Garston.

“The proposals make good use of a derelict, brownfield site and, if approved, will bring new visitors to the centre of Garston. We want to hear from the local community and so have launched this ‘virtual’ public consultation to give everyone an opportunity to review our plans.

“We hope that as many people as possible are able to join us and we look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”

Lidl has already made a significant investment in Liverpool, with a new store in Toxteth opened in October and planning applications submitted to Liverpool City Council for new stores in Belle Vale and in North Liverpool at Great Homer Street.

The new supermarkets form part of the company’s £1.45bn investment in its expansion across Great Britain in 2019 and 2020.
