A live escape attraction could take over part of the ground floor at The Arch student halls under new plans submitted to Liverpool City Council.

Proposals have been revealed to transform storage space at the Duke Street accommodation into a venue for the popular social experience.

Live escape games, which typically see participants tasked with breaking out of a locked room by solving a series of puzzles or mysteries, have grown in popularity in recent years with several springing up in Liverpool.

The planning application for the Duke Street attraction suggests it will feature rooms with themes including ‘Prison Break’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ and ‘CSI’.

A statement issued to the council reads: “The existing use of the lower ground floor of the building is vacant space and the proposal is to convert part of the lower ground floor vacant space into themed rooms.

“The design responds positively to the mixed-use of the existing dwellings of the area and the busy atmosphere of dwellings nearby. The proposal maximises the potential of the existing building.”

The Arch was formerly the historic Scandinavian Hotel, which lay derelict for more than three decades before property developer Downing converted it into student halls.
