Liverpool has been chosen as the only UK city outside London to screen a number of short Shakespeare films to mark 400 years since the Bard’s death.
Star names including Jonathan Pryce, Dominic West and Peter Capaldi will be on show across a range of city centre venues.
Known as The Complete Walk, each of the 37 10-minute films will feature all new material, shot on location in a setting with a particular historical and narrative resonance.
Confirmed filming locations include The Tower of London for Richard III, Hampton Court Palace for Henry VII, Westminster Abbey for Henry IV and Kronborg Castle in Denmark for Hamlet.
Alongside Liverpool, The Complete Walk will be screened on a stretch of the River Thames between Westminster and Tower bridge as well as Santa Barbara in California.
Councillor Wendy Simon, assistant mayor and cabinet member for culture, tourism and events, says: “It’s a huge coup for Liverpool to be the only city in the UK outside of London to host The Complete Walk.
“It’s wonderful to be able to work with venues across the city centre to mark the Bard’s anniversary, and I’m sure with the impressive cast list, thousands of people will take the opportunity to see as many, if not all, of the 37 short films as possible.”
A full list of venues, opening times and the locations of each play to be shown in Liverpool over the weekend of 23-25 April will be released in March.
