An ambitious plan to build 1,370 student bedrooms, a two-storey sports hall and a sports pavilion at Greenbank Student Village are set to be approved next week.

The development is being recommended for approval at the planning committee’s meeting on 21 April. The plans mean seven buildings at the site will be demolish to make way for four to eight-storey buildings housing student accommodation, while Derby Old Court would be refurbished.

The scheme also includes a two-storey sports hall, sports pavilion and sports pitches at the site, which will serve the University of Liverpool.

The application does not include nearby Grade II-listed Greenbank House.

A total of four complaints were received about the proposals including concerns about loss of trees, the height of the buildings and a potential increase in anti-social behavior including discarded takeaway wrappers and damage to cars. However, the application is supported by Councillor Robertson-Collins due to the investment it will bring to Greenbank Ward.

In a report submitted to the planning committee, a statement says: “The Head of Planning has considered all of the issues and considers this application to represent an enhancement of the area and an attraction to the student community to the benefit of the local economy.”
