Liverpool’s long-standing independent menswear retailer, Giancarlo Ricci is planning to double the size of its Bold Street store.
An application has been submitted to Liverpool City Council to transform the street’s former Starbucks coffee shop into an extension of the designer clothing shop, with a new entrance created.
Expanding the shop and its offering is something Giancarlo Ricci has been looking to do for some time, according to managing director Marc Goodman.
With the business having previously explored the option to extend its existing well-known retail unit upwards without planning success, Marc says: “We’ve wanted to [expand] for a long time and we opened a shoe shop over the road instead.”
With plans to transform the store, which has been based on Bold Street since 1986, in phases to create a “full men’s department store” offering more brands and products, Marc adds that the footwear shop will close and most of the transformation will be completed by March next year. The first of the phases, which will see the current space extend into the first floor area of the former Starbucks, is expected to be ready in the coming weeks.
Having waited for the right opportunity to further develop Giancarlo Ricci on the city’s independent hub of Bold Street, as opposed to relocating to a larger site elsewhere, Marc adds: “Bold Street has still got a lot of relevance. We believe in the street and it’s very buoyant again, it always has been from our point of view. We want to show our commitment.”
