Community groups from across Merseyside are being invited to apply for funding to improve local green space.
The Bags for Help scheme is a joint project between Groundwork and supermarket Tesco, with money raised via proceeds of the 5p charge for plastic carrier bags.
Projects that will benefit from the scheme include new pocket parks, sports facilities, schools, wildlife areas, seafront improvements and community gardens.
Your Move recently reported on the ‘My-City Allotment (Bluegreen Liverpool)’ project which could see spaces from Bold Street to the Baltic Triangle turned into community allotments.
Engage Liverpool’s initiative has been chosen to receive a share of the first phase of funding of either £8,000, £10,000 or £12,000.
The second round of funding for Bags for Help will open for applications on 18 April and is available to community groups from across England, Wales and Scotland.
Tesco customers will be able to cast their vote on which shortlisted project in their area they would like to see receive the top grant from 1 October 2016.
