Plans are in to restore a row of listed terraced homes in Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter.

The nine rundown townhouses, which form an L-shape along Percy Street and Upper Parliament Street, have lain empty since 2008.

Developer Elliot Group has submitted a planning application to Liverpool City Council for the scheme, which it says will be worth a total of £3.2 million once complete.

Subject to council approval, the refurbished properties, which will be marketed as family homes, are expected to be ready for occupation in spring 2018.

Elliot Lawless of Elliot Group says: “There’s pent-up demand for home ownership in Canning and for more family homes, too.

“New infrastructure such as LIPA’s primary school is broadening Canning’s appeal as a place to live and it will be a pleasure to see the houses restored to family homes.

“The properties are Grade II-listed and sit in a conservation area, which imposes strict rules on their refurbishment.

“The rules relate to the exteriors, but our planning application has addressed what’s salvageable inside.

“Clearly, we need to create family homes fit for today’s needs and it’s been an enjoyable challenge for our architects balancing the two requirements.

“Most of the Georgian features were ripped out when the houses were converted to bedsits so we’ll be looking to reinstate some of the original grace and style that makes these properties so appealing.”
