Pop-up pub opens in Liverpool ONE

Part of Liverpool ONE has been transformed into a 19th Century tavern today to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo.

The pop-up pub, called the Duke of Wellington, has been installed by the National Army museum to raise public awareness of the historical event through a fun and interactive installation, and will be open today (28 May) from 10am-5pm.

The family-friendly tavern, based in Paradise Place, includes historic characters recounting their tales, and visitors can play a Waterloo computer game.

There will also be a competition to win a trip to visit the battlefield in Belgium, staying in the Landmark Trust’s Hougoumort chateaux for three nights with return travel on Eurostar and £500 spending money.

Liverpool ONE is also currently home to other pop-ups including The Crossing soundscape, the Boardwalk Bar made from shipping pallets in Chavasse Park, and Words on the Street, which includes ‘reading trees’ as part of the city’s literary festival, In Other Words.

Future pop-ups for the city include a Coors light bar and the return of Harvey Nichols food market on 16th September.
