Public opinion sought on Festival Gardens masterplan

Liverpool City Council is inviting the public to offer their views on its masterplan for the regeneration of the International Festival Gardens site.

The local authority will gather feedback on its draft proposals for a ‘cultural garden suburb’ with up to 3,000 eco-friendly homes at the waterfront location during a four-week consultation beginning today (30 November).

A public consultation event will be held at Sefton Park Library on Aigburth Road between 10am and 6pm, followed by a second showcase on at Liverpool Town Hall on 7 December. The plans are also available to view on the the council’s website.

The regeneration proposals aim to revamp the gardens and transform the area into a tourist attraction, complete with cultural venues, leisure outlets, new docks and a waterpark as well as new homes.

Public feedback on the masterplan will help shape a formal planning application for 90-acre site next year.

Councillor Malcolm Kennedy, cabinet member for regeneration, says: “This masterplan is a comprehensive approach to regenerating the wider Festival Gardens site with greater benefits for the local community. This will be a long-term process to carefully develop what is a hugely important site to the city and its residents.’’
