Red Bull has denied it is in negotiations with Liverpool to host the Red Bull Air Race in the city, but says it is “delighted” by approaches from new venues.

In a series of tweets on social network site Twitter, fans of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship asked the company if it would consider a race in Liverpool, leading to a reply that read: “Well you never know what might happen…” However, despite the cryptic message, the company says it is contracted to hold events in Ascot Racecourse until 2016 and is not in negotiations with any other venue.

Alongside requests to host the event in Liverpool, fans of the race have also campaigned to host the UK leg of the event in Folkestone in recent months and Red Bull says it is “delighted” with the approaches.

When asked about Liverpool as prospective venue for the race, a Red Bull spokesperson says: “Red Bull Air Race is very honored and pleased to have a three year’s contract with Ascot Racecourse and is looking forward to hosting spectacular events in 2015 and 2016 together with our partner.

“However Red Bull Air Race is delighted having been approached by fans of Folkestone asking for more information about the official World Championship of air racing as well, but the organisation is not in any negotiations about future races with any other partner than Ascot Racecourse at this stage.

“Red Bull Air Race has held six fantastic races in the UK so far. Thinking of the races in London and especially last year’s breathtaking stop in Ascot we can say, that the fastest motorsport series in the world and the aviation loving Great Britain seem to be a perfect match.”

The championship, named the fastest motorsport in the world by the drinks brand, is often held over water in cities around the world and was previously held in London. Other venues hosting the 2015 championship include Budapest, Abu Dhabi and Las Vegas.

Red Bull will host its Harbour Reach wakeboarding event in Liverpool in July.
