Plans to repurpose Liverpool’s TJ Hughes store as 266 one and two-bedroom apartments have been revealed.

Vision International Group Limited wants to convert Audley House on London Road into residential use and refurbish the building’s existing facade – removing the 1960’s canopy and re-introducing the original coving work.

Under the proposals, which have recently been submitted to Liverpool City Council, the apartments would be spread across all floors, with a new extension of one to three storeys housing a residents’ gym and amenity space.

TJ Hughes has been operating from Audley House since 1927 – replacing Owen Owen when it relocated to a purpose-built store in Clayton Square.

A heritage statement included with the planning application reads: “The proposed development aims to retain, restore, and enhance the most significant parts of Audley House, whilst introducing a viable new use.

“Overall, the most significant parts of the building will be retained and enhanced, whilst new-build elements are proposed to be located towards the lesser significant parts of the site.”
