When you walk through the doors of Castle Street’s BoBo, you enter a world where Spanish and Portuguese cultures mix; a perfect combination of food and aesthetics. You’re greeted with exposed brick creating a rustic ambience, welcoming booths for a cosy catch-up and tasteful artwork.

The simple colour scheme is really effective in transporting you to another place; the deep green tiles throughout connect you with the pastoral, the low-hanging lights provide the warmth of a foreign sun and the black and white decorative tiles give a cool splash of personality. An eclectic playlist compliments the menu whilst the eye-catching wine cellar located at the back of the restaurant entices you to have another drink.

My guest and I were greeted by Kerry for our 1pm reservation on a sunny Saturday and escorted to a cosy booth tucked at the back of the bar. We had booked a 90-minute bottomless brunch, a signature BoBo package which costs £30. The brunches run between 12-3pm on weekends and are high in demand… I now know why!

Kerry gracefully explained that we had unlimited drink choices (prosecco, sangria, caipirinhas or beer) before being served a charcuterie board selection and dessert. My guest ordered a prosecco whilst I opted for a Caipirinha, a refreshingly zingy drink with flavours of lime and passionfruit.

Shortly after, our charcuterie board was served with a delectable array of Bocadillo sandwiches, serrano ham and alioli bites, olives, crackers with various meats and cheeses. My personal favourite was the Monte Enebro – a creamy, textured cheese that when paired with some chorizo and crackers made for brunching heaven!

The board offers something for everyone including kikones (a typical Spanish bar snack) and potato tortillas, which have the texture of clouds, and you get to wash it all down with your unlimited drink!

Before dessert arrived, I took the chance to delve into the history of BoBo and find out how it all began. Kerry explained that ‘BoBo’ is Spanish slang for ‘fool’ and the name of the bar is inspired by the notion to have fun and not taking yourself too seriously. It certainly is the perfect place to have fun!

During my visit there was a hen party sat at the long table making good use of the built-in iceboxes to keep their prosecco chilled and easily accessible. Our desserts included churros with chocolate sauce and pastel de natas – similar to a custard tart. This Portuguese pastry melts in the mouth, giving a true taste of the Iberian coast.

There are plenty of drinks on the standard menu, so after your brunch is finished you can continue the merriment with a ‘Queen Rosada’ or an ‘Iberian Punch’ – a perfectly palatable collection of cocktails.

Whether you’re after a boozy brunch, a quaint catch-up, or an Iberian holiday in the heart of Liverpool, BoBo is the place to go.
