Romal Capital submits transformational plans for Liverpool’s historic Brunswick Dock

Romal Capital has submitted a planning application to Liverpool City Council for the regeneration of Brunswick Dock, proposing a new development at one of the city’s historic southern docks.

Originally opened in 1832 to serve Britain’s global cargo fleet, Brunswick Dock has stood largely idle for more than 70 years. Romal’s proposals will restore life to the once-thriving dock, delivering a “vibrant, mixed-use waterfront community” featuring 560 new homes, extensive public realm improvements, and the creation of the ‘1832 Farmers Market’ – a community marketplace celebrating Liverpool’s maritime and trading heritage.

Located directly beside Liverpool Marina, the island-site masterplan also includes new cafés and leisure spaces, a gym and health centre, landscaped gardens, and public access to the dock waters for paddleboarding and aquatic recreation. The lower levels will offer active frontages, cycle tracks, and walkways linking the marina to the wider Mersey waterfront.

Greg Malouf, CEO of Romal Capital, says: “These undertakings are challenging but deeply rewarding.

“To bring a dock that helped build Britain’s global trade story back to life – and to create beautiful new homes along one of the country’s finest waterfronts – is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We’re incredibly proud to play our part in Liverpool’s continuing renaissance.

“This is the final major southern dock to be redeveloped, and our vision is to turn a long-neglected site into a thriving neighbourhood that the public can truly enjoy. Brunswick Dock will reconnect people with the water and with Liverpool’s maritime identity.”

The proposed 1832 Farmers Market, named after the year the dock first opened, will showcase fresh local produce and small businesses in a covered, open-air setting that “weaves Liverpool’s dockland story into its design”.

Romal’s regeneration of Brunswick Dock follows the company’s successful delivery of the West Waterloo Dock project and its ongoing work across Liverpool Waters and Central Docks, where it has already completed more than 370 homes, with 200 more under construction.

Greg adds: “Brunswick Dock is a jewel of Liverpool’s southern waterfront.

“This project supports the City Council’s ambitions to create sustainable, high-quality communities along the Mersey. It’s about respecting our shared history while building a vibrant future.”
