Sefton Park Palm House raises £9,000 with fundraising dinner

Almost £9,000 was raised for Sefton Park Palm House at a fundraising dinner attended by 200 of its supporters.

Proceeds from The Henry Yates Thompson Dinner, named after the Grade II-listed building’s benefactor, were donated towards its upkeep.

BBC Radio Merseyside presenter Roger Phillips hosted the three-course dinner event, which included drinks, a quiz, dancing and fireworks, with complementary services provided by a number of local businesses.

The funding will go towards the maintainance of the Palm House and ensure regular events continue to take place there.

Kate Martinez of the Palm House team says: “We can’t thank our supporters enough for the fantastic turnout during this second fundraiser. It is because of their continuous support and resilient community spirit that our beautiful crown jewel of Sefton Park can be preserved for many more years to come. With our regular donations we will be able to match Henry Yates Thompson’s £10,000 by the end of this year.

“The impressive funds that have been raised will not only contribute to the general maintenance of the venue, they will also ensure that our eclectic programme of events continues to expand.

“We recently marked our fifteenth anniversary since our community led grand restoration and these dedicated and new supporters remain the backbone of the Palm House. It is because of the fundraising efforts and the generosity of our board, campaigners, volunteers and visitors that we are able to keep our venue and our plant collection thriving.”

Adding to the funding pot, local restaurants, artists and businesses donated raffle prizes which were handed out on the night.

    I am lucky enough to be able to see the Palm House every day from where I live, by Sefton Park. It is also one of my favourite subjects to photograph.
