The home of former Everton FC chairman, Liverpool FC chairholder and Littlewoods founder, Sir John Moores, is up for sale.

The detached mansion in Freshfield, Formby, is on the market for £1.9m, and estate agent Colette Gunter has allowed Your Move a peek inside the entrepreneur’s spectacular former home.

The home includes three entertaining rooms, a games/cinema room, four double bedrooms, a double garage and landscaped gardens. Situated on the prestigious Shireburn Road, the home overlooks the exclusive Formby Golf Links.

Sir John Moores, who founded the Littlewood pools and retail empire, lived in the home for nearly 60 years between 1930 and 1993. He named the mansion ‘Fairways’ and the name remains to this day.

During the time he lived at the home, he was chairman of Everton FC, bankrolling the club as it became known as the ‘Mersey Millionaires’ in the 1960s. He was also a shareholder in Liverpool FC, while his nephew David Moores was chairman in the 1990s.

The businessman was also a keen philanthropist and his name has been given to Liverpool John Moores University and the John Moores Painting Prize. However, he was best known for founding the Littlewoods pools and later the retail company, where he accumulated an estimated fortune of around £1.7bn four years before he died.
