Shrek the Musical will be performed at the Liverpool Empire in November and December 2015 as part of a UK and Ireland tour.
The hit Broadway and West End musical will play at the theatre from 25 November to 6 December, where the popular animated film series will be brought to life my former Eastenders actor and director Nigel Harman, who had previously played Lord Farquaad in the Theatre Royal Drury Lane Production.
The tale of the ogre and his loyal companion, Donkey, is based on the DreamWorks Animations film and William Steig’s book Shrek! and has toured 150 cities in the US and Canada since it opened in 2008. Tickets for the Liverpool Empire show will be available to ATG Theatre Card members on 19 January. Shrek the Musical tickets will go on general sale on Thursday 22 January from £10.
Harman says: “I am delighted to be returning to Shrek as its director. This show is very special to me with its dizzying blend of great characters, a hilarious script and sublime music. This production is visually stunning, and the story has the magic ingredient of moving at great pace while still being surprisingly intimate. In short, there was no way I was going to say no to the challenge of realising the production for the UK and Ireland.”
Casting for the production will be announced at a later date. To book tickets visit the Liverpool Empire Box Office, call 0844 871 3017* or buy online at www.atgtickets.com/liverpool.
